--- SPOILER ALERT ---
This episode opened with Stannis Baratheon and Ser Davos on a ship entering the city of Braavos. Yes, after being mentioned a few times, we finally saw Braavos this time. There was a huge warrior statue at the entrance of the city, reminded me a bit to Lord Of The Rings. But, unlike in LoTR where there are 2 statues so people pass between them, in order to enter Braavos, one has to sail pass under the statue's crotch, lol.
Shortly after that, we saw Stannis and Davos in the Iron Bank. As it was said in the last episode, Stannis needed golds for war, but the Iron Bank refused to give him the loan, since Stannis didn't look powerful enough (army-wise, money-wise) to win the war and pay back his debt.
However, Ser Davos was finally able to convince "Mycroft" the Iron Bank person (idk his character's name on this show so I call him Mycroft) to trust that Stannis would always pay his debt (Lannister much?). See there Stannis?? Ser Davos is the one actual useful guy among your people, not that creepy shady fire-obsessed red lady. For real.
Oh and one more thing, it's kinda different to see Stannis and Davos in a scene with bright settings. Haha.
Next story line came from Theon Greyjoy the useless traitor. This time, his sister, real badass Yara Greyjoy and her men attempted to save him from Ramsay Snow. But, since Theon had been completely brainwashed to become Reek, he refused to go with Yara.
I totally didn't understand Theon tbh. This might be his only chance of getting back his life, not that he deserved it, and yet he refused. WHYYY??? Someone who has read the book please explain this to me, thanks.
After kicking Yara off the island, Ramsay gave Reek a reward for being loyal. A bath. Uncomfortable scene, really haha. Also here, Ramsay was being sooo nice, kind, he washed Reek's back, making viewers wondering what the hell was on his sleeves. Ramsay Snow is one manipulative cruel bastard, he always has something bad in his mind. Apparently, he wanted the Greyjoy's castle next, and he sent Reek to do it.
Right after that scene, all of sudden viewers were taken to a grass field with several goats, a goatherd and a boy. To say that this was a weird scenery transition from Reek's bath is an understatement. But, a very nice surprise came after a short while.
Daenerys was ruling as the queen of Meereen. Btw, that goatherd from the last scene actually complained to Dany about her dragons eating his goats, and then he got a 3x refunds from Dany. If only real government was as nice as this lol.
Also, another man came forward to Dany to ask for his father's body so he could give him a proper burial. Turned out that the man's father was one of the masters that Dany crucified when she freed Meereen's slaves. Quite a long talk here, but simply put, that man's father was actually a good master, and Dany made a terrible mistake. See? I said it weeks ago that her "revenge" action on the masters would come back and bite her in the ass.
The next part of the episode came from King's Landing. The new small council, consisted of Tywin Lannister the Hand of the King, Cersei Lannister, Prince Oberyn, Mace Tyrell, Varys and Maester Pycelle.
The only important thing in this scene was that now they put a bounty for The Hound, and the King's Landing people were now aware of Daenerys' rising power across the sea with her army and her dragons.
Moving on to the last and the biggest part of this episode, Tyrion Lannister's trial. Here's basically what happened during the trial:
- a summary of everything
- sassy Tyrion
- the crown a.k.a "Cersei's side" brought 5 witnesses to bring down Tyrion, while it seemed that The Imp didn't have even one defendant. Weird court system. Also all the witnesses were a*sholes. First Ser Meryn (Joffrey's kingsguard), Maester Pycelle (he told us about the poison from Sansa's necklace), Cersei, and surprisingly, Varys. Long story short, each of them told us a story of how Tyrion hated Joffrey, that's it.
- Prince Oberyn being bored most of the time
- Jaime Lannister had a talk with Tywin, offering a deal for Tyrion
- I said 5 witnesses right? Here's the 5th witness. Surprise!
- I was genuinely surprised. And then I was confused. So all this time Shae was lying to Tyrion about her love? Or was it because Tyrion married Sansa and this was Shae's revenge? Or was this some kind of a trick to idk, knock Tyrion for a loop??
- Tyrion's major outburst. Poor poor imp
- One thing about Tyrion's outburst, the way he talked was totally different with his usual tone and voice. During his whole speech, Peter Dinklage's voice was deep, harsh, full of hate, and it was very very cool. It sounded like Smaug's voice actually. You go Tyrion!
- Also one more plot twist
So, who will Tyrion choose as his champion? Jaime? Unlikely, I guess, since Jaime's not as good as he was with his right hand. Bronn? Maybe. Someone else?
--- SPOILER ENDS ---
I give The Laws of Gods and Men 4/5 noise. The whole trial scene was intense. Special appreciation for Peter Dinklage for such an emotional performance, facial expression, gesture, vocal tone, intensity, everything was on point. Kudos Peter.
