Game Of Thrones 4x05 First Of His Name review

Before I begin my review, here's some update about my damn laptop. So, it is no longer dead but it is still not functioning properly either. I re-installed the windows, but now it works very slowly it's frustrating, I'm frustrated. Okay, rant over, let's begin.

First of His Name is the fifth episode of GoT season 4. Somehow, to me this episode felt like a glance back to the beginning of Game Of Thrones. Not entirely, but some parts really took viewers back to season 1.

--- SPOILER ALERT ---

This episode started with Tommen's coronation. For those of you who watch NCIS, does Tommen look a bit like McGee?? Because I think so, lol.

Not far from the throne, we saw a civilized talk between Margaery and Cersei, about Tommen, about Joffrey, about Margaery's marriage to Tommen and Cersei's marriage to Loras. I didn't expect them to be talking that way actually, because if I'm not mistaken, Cersei never really like Margaery much ever since she was supposed to marry Joffrey.

We also saw a talk between Cersei and Tywin Lannister. Based on some spoilers I got, there are some major plot points that were revealed in this episode. This was one of them.

Also, based on the preview for next episode Mark Gatiss is coming to GoT as someone important I guess from the Iron Bank of Bravoos!!!! Familiar?

Also, why is this series so obsessed with everything Iron??? The Iron Throne, The Iron Bank, The Iron Island????

Let's move on for a while to Meereen. The news of Joffrey's death had reached Daenerys. Seriously, why didn't Dany get suspicious of Jorah for knowing all these stuffs from across the sea?

Anyway, with the power at The King's Landing weakened, and Dany's army getting stronger and stronger, Ser Barristan suggested them to sail for Westeros. However, there are also problems in the slave cities Dany had previously conquered, so she decided (wisely, as she's supposed to be) to rule over them as a Queen, and not to sail for Westeros. Btw, this is the 2nd major plot point.

Meanwhile, Sansa and Petyr Baelish had reached the Vale. There, Sansa was reunited with her Aunt Lysa, who seemed sweet and kind at first but turned out to be kinda crazy because she's jealous of the attention and care Baelish gave to Sansa. Also now Sansa was going to be married to Robin, Lysa's son a.k.a Sansa's cousin. Well, Sansa is not destined for a proper happy marriage, is she?

One surprise came from a scene between Lysa and Littlefinger, though.

YES, we remember that it was Jon Arryn's death that first started this whole series in motion. He was the Hand of King Robert Baratheon, and because he died, Ned Stark was sent to King's Landing. And we were lead to think that it was Cersei who killed him to cover up her incestuous relationship with Jaime. But no. Once again, it was Littlefinger. Damn, this guy is literally the most dangerous guy in whole Westeros. The ultimate murder planner.

The north story took a big part of this episode. Last week we saw Bran and his friends got captured by the mutineers at Craster's Keep. Jon Snow was heading there not knowing Bran was there too.

Long story short, of course Jon Snow and his black brothers succeeded in killing all the mutineers, saving all the women there, BUT I made one wrong prediction last week. Turned out there was no Jon and Bran reunion scene. It's due to this.

Jojen Reed, a boy who could see the future and kind of a guide for Bran told him that he had to go north and Jon would never allow him to go north. As always, I don't really understand Bran's story arc, so yeah, maybe this will lead to something huge, idk. Yes, it's the 3rd major plot point.

Oh one more thing. I predicted correctly about Locke! Turned out he wanted to kidnap (?) Bran and he threatened that if Bran made noises he would kill the others. So Bran used his warg ability, went into Hodor's consciousness and killed Locke. One, I didn't know warg power can be used to something other that animal. Two, the killing was gory. Wow.

A few more things from this episode:
  • Brienne and Podrick continued their journey to find Sansa. This is like the comedic part of this episode, basically, with scenes such as Podrick couldn't ride a horse, he cooked a rabbit without it being skinned, plus multiple eye-roll from Brienne.
  • Arya was practicing her sword dance and got mocked by The Hound. She also  mentioned her late teacher, Syrio Forel. And apparently Arya still got the habit of listing the names of her enemies before going to sleep.
  • See? Jon Arryn's case, Dany talking about Westeros, Bran and his three-eyed raven, Arya and her sword, everything reminded me of the earlier seasons.
  • Cersei had a quite long talk with Prince Oberyn. Yes a lot of Cersei in this episode, yeah? Also this scene quite confused me because Cersei seemed sooo sincere while talking about missing her daughter, who was sent to Dorne. She even sent a gift to her daughter through Prince Oberyn. Maybe because she just lost Joffrey? Character development? Idk, but I'm so used to Cersei as a scheming head bitch in charge, seeing her being sincere is weird.
--- SPOILER ENDS ---

I give First of His Name 4/5 noise. We're halfway through this season! It was a pretty good episode in my opinion, great action, pretty scenery and CGI as always except for the Weirwood tree in Jojen's vision, a good trip down the memory lane, but I miss the dragons on my screen!
