Grey's Anatomy 10x23 Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right review

Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right is the 23rd episode of GA season 10. There's a pretty big portion of the interns' stories in this episode, and although I normally couldn't care less about them, I quite enjoyed this episode.

--- SPOILER ALERT ---

So it's certain now that Cristina Yang was moving to Switzerland to run the research facility owned and built by Dr Burke since he himself was moving to Milan with his family. We got that from last week's episode.

Also, the research facility was awesome. I mean, they did surgery with a hologram heart there, how cool is that? Yes, I know this is fictional but even in the GA universe, this is cool. You go rock that place, Cristina Yang.

One thing I wanna say since I didn't write Grey's review last week. I'm really glad that the writers did not make Cristina's moving to involve romantic motives. Burke clearly told Cristina that he's happy with his family, he's moving to Milan to be closer to his wife's parents. He wanted Cristina to run the entire facility because she got the capability for it. Because she's the best. That's it. Believe me, if this show was run by Glee writers or Once Upon A Time writers, I'm pretty sure Cristina's motive would involve something like, to chase Burke, to go back to their once great love story. Ridiculous. So, again, thank you Shonda Rhimes

Now I'm just hoping that nothing bad happens to Cristina next week on the finale. Because if once again they "kick" a character out of this show by using death, if they kill Cristina Yang, I swear I'll stop watching Grey's Anatomy.

In this episode, Cristina was seen interviewing the candidates for Head of Cardio-thoracic surgery dept. Which was weird, because she was only a fellow, her position was technically lower than a Head of Dept. Meredith guessed that it was a trick from Owen, to actually offer Cristina the job, so she'd call off her moving plan.

Later at the end of the episode viewers found out though, that yes, Owen initially wanted to offer Cristina the job but he couldn't do it because he knew what Cristina actually wanted and needed.

He only asked for Cristina not to leave him, until she left the place. Personally I feel like this is a beautiful end for their relationship. It'll be much more logical this way, than to force a story line of them being in a long distance relationship, which we know will never work well on a tv show.

As I said before, this episode focused a lot on the interns. Each of them got quite a solid case this time, unlike regular episodes where they are usually just "existing" there. The interns heard the news that one of them was gonna get fired before next year, so everyone was panicking.

Dr Bailey faced an assault & battery charges from the parents of the kid with immuno-deficiency disease, because Bailey secretly gave the deactivated HIV treatment against the parents consent. Yes, the treatment worked well, the kid's getting better, but the parents were furious. Bailey refused to apologize since she believed that it wasn't a mistake.

Long story short, one of the interns, Stephanie Edwards, put herself forward. She took the blame for Bailey, saved Bailey from losing her medical license by saying that she was actually the one who forgot to tell Bailey that the parents withdrew their consent. In exchange, Edwards received a week of disciplinary suspension. This made Bailey kinda go soft on her, saying that she wouldn't let Edwards get fired without a fight from her. Seems like Edwards was safe for the next season.

To be honest, I was quite surprised that Bailey's case got resolved just in one episode. I thought that at least her case would get closed in the finale next week, if not in the next season, kind of like a cliffhanger whether or not Bailey would lose her license, or something like that. The real story worked quite well for me, though.

Moving on to Shane Ross. He's working in the pediatric this time, assisting Arizona Robbins. Alex, who took the private practice job, suddenly came back to Grey Sloan Memorial and "stole" Robbins' patient. Alex were planning a surgery for that kid without Robbins knowing. Ross tried to prevent him, but Alex went through anyway.

Once Robbins found out, she was furious at both Alex and Ross. Poor Ross. He got the wrath from both sides. Even worse, he screwed up a bit with one of his patients, again causing Robbins to snap at him, so it seems that his position was not secured yet.

Later we found out tho, that Alex did that because he got no patient at the practice, and he needed patients to get money. Arizona forgave him as always. You know what, I'm really sick of Alex Karev this season. I've never liked him so much, but seriously he's a complete a*shole this season. Like, really dude? Idk the system there, but Alex you left the hospital, coming back only to steal a patient was a rude move, no matter what your reason was. Ugh.

Jo Wilson was still in ortho. However, to secure her intern position, she actually tried to help everyone at the same time. She's with Callie, but she also kept on trying to impress Kepner, basically she's a mess this week.

Ben Warren and Leah Murphy were with Webber this time. They got a case with a patient who couldn't stop farting. This case was hilarious, actually. Warren seemed okay, nothing big really occurred to him, so I guess he's relatively safe.

Murphy was in a completely different storm tho. She actually managed to get a brilliant idea for the patient, however, during surgery Webber realized that Murphy's skill was not enough as a surgeon. So, yeah. Murphy will be gone next season.

PLUS, SPOILER ALERT. It's been confirmed that Gaius Charles and Tessa Ferrer (Ross and Murphy, respectively) are not coming back next season. So it's kinda clear how all this intern thing will turn out.

Big twist came at the end of this episode. Derek just came back to Seattle after meeting the president in DC. And apparently, the president wanted Derek to move to DC, and it seemed that Derek wanted to bring Meredith and their family along to move across the country. Also now that Cristina was going, Alex's no longer there, will MerDer also leave Grey Sloan??

A couple more things:

  • April and Jackson were happy for their baby
  • while Arizona and Callie were not, since it turned out that Callie couldn't have a baby due to her accident a few seasons back. Oops.
--- SPOILER ENDS ---

I give this episode 4/5 noise. It's enjoyable, good portion of drama, despite of my usual disinterest with the interns' story line, plus there were Twisted Sisters scenes this week!! And oh, we're officially saying goodbye to Cristina Yang next week and I'm glad that things are looking great for her ending, although I will definitely miss such a great female character.
